South Bend Computer Repair

South Bend & Michiana

New computer setup, with everything moved over

A new computer is only fun once it feels like yours: your photos and documents where you expect them, your email signed in, your bookmarks and saved passwords in the browser, the printer printing. We do that part. Bring both machines to the counter, or we come to you and set it up on your own desk and Wi-Fi.

The transfer is quoted after we see both machines, because the price depends on how much there is to move and what shape the old computer is in. You hear that number before anything starts. An on-site visit is a flat $149, and a next-day or weekend slot adds $49.

Bought it somewhere else? That is fine. Bought it from our refurbished shelf? Setup and transfer are the same job, and we have both machines in the shop already.

Or just walk in during business hours, no appointment needed.

What we set up and move over

  • Photos, documents, downloads and desktop files from the old computer
  • Email, contacts and calendar signed in and syncing (Outlook, Gmail, iCloud)
  • Browser bookmarks, saved passwords and extensions
  • Printers, scanners and the Wi-Fi it all needs to talk over
  • Windows updates, the bloatware removed, and sensible protection set up
  • Programs reinstalled from their real installers, with your logins handy
  • The old computer wiped securely afterward, or bought from you for store credit

One honest heads-up: some programs cannot simply be copied across, they have to be reinstalled, and a few older ones will not run on a new Windows at all. We tell you which ones before we start, and if the old computer is slow rather than broken, we will say when an SSD upgrade would do what a new machine would, for a lot less.

Common questions

Common new computer setup questions

How much does it cost to set up a new computer and move my files?

It is quoted after we see both machines. Moving a few folders from a healthy laptop is a different job from rescuing twenty years of photos off a drive that is on its way out, and we would rather give you the real number than a guess. The one flat price in it is the on-site visit, $149, if you want it done at your place. At the counter, you hear the price before anything starts.

What should I bring?

Both computers and their chargers, and your passwords: the Microsoft or Apple account, your email, and anything you pay for like Office or QuickBooks, since those have to be signed into or reinstalled rather than copied. If you are not sure what your logins are, bring what you have and we will work through it together.

Will my programs come over too?

Your files and settings do. Programs are different: most have to be reinstalled on the new computer from their real installers, then signed back in, which we do as part of the setup when you have the login. A few older programs simply will not run on a new Windows, and we tell you which ones before we start so there are no surprises.

Can you do it at my home or office?

Yes. An on-site visit is a flat $149, and a next-day or weekend slot adds $49. On-site is the right call when the printer, the Wi-Fi and the desk are all part of the setup, so everything leaves working together instead of working at our counter and not at yours.

What happens to my old computer?

Your choice. We can wipe it securely so nothing of yours is left on it, which matters before it goes to a relative or the recycler. Or if it still has life in it, we buy used laptops and desktops for cash or store credit. And if the old one is only slow, not broken, we will say so, because an SSD upgrade sometimes does what a new computer would for a lot less.

Do you sell the new computer too?

We keep tested, warrantied refurbished business-class laptops and desktops on the shelf. If you buy one here, the setup and transfer are the same job, and both machines are already in the shop. If you bought yours somewhere else, that is completely fine, bring it in.

Whatever broke, we’ve probably seen it. Let’s take a look.

Our flat prices are posted on the pricing page. The one thing we never guess at is the repair itself: we look first ($60, credited to your repair), then you get a real number before any work starts. Walk in, book a time, or text us a photo of what’s wrong. Look for the black door with our logo on it, straight ahead when you pull in, up the steps; knock if it’s locked, we’re here.
