Microsoft Surface repair in South Bend
Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, Surface Go and Surface Book are built differently from most laptops: the screen and the battery are glued in, and on many of them the storage is soldered to the board. That changes what a repair costs and whether it makes sense. We tell you straight.
We are an independent local shop. The diagnostic is $60 and it comes off the repair. For a Surface that $60 mostly buys the honest answer: what is wrong, what it would take, and whether that is worth it against what the device is worth. Some Surface repairs are not economical, and you hear that before anything is opened.

What usually breaks on Surfaces
- Batteries that die fast or swell. The battery is glued in behind the screen, so the screen has to come off to reach it, and that is a careful job. A swollen battery that is lifting the screen should not wait.
- Cracked screens. The glass and display are one glued assembly, so a crack means replacing the whole panel, and on some models the price of that panel is close to the value of the device.
- Will not turn on, or will not charge. Charger, port and board are tested separately before anyone talks about parts.
- Type Cover or keyboard not detected, and touch that stops responding on part of the screen.
- Windows trouble: slow, stuck on updates, will not boot. Often a software fix, which can also be done remotely.
- Files on a Surface that will not start. Storage is soldered on many models, so we are honest about what recovery can and cannot do.
Parts: Surface screens and batteries are ordered for the exact model once you approve the quote. We do not open a Surface until you have the price and have said yes. See what’s on the shelf right now.
The honest numbers
What a Microsoft Surface repair costs here.
The same numbers as our pricing page and the counter. The one thing we do not guess at is the repair itself, because the part depends on your exact model.
Diagnostic
A hands-on look and a plain answer about what is actually wrong with your Microsoft Surface. Your answer within 5 business days, usually sooner. Go ahead with the repair and the $60 comes right off it.
Priority diagnostic
Same look, ahead of every standard job, so a busy week cannot push you back. Pick it when you book or at the counter.
The repair
Screens, keyboards, batteries, charge ports, drives: the part depends on your exact Microsoft Surface model, so we quote it after the look and you approve it before any work starts. 30-day warranty on parts and labor.
If the fix needs a part we keep on the shelf, like an SSD or memory, it can often happen the same day you approve it. A Microsoft Surface screen, keyboard, battery or charge port is ordered for your exact model, usually a few days, and we tell you how long before you decide. While it is on the bench you can borrow a charger, keyboard, mouse or monitor for a small flat fee quoted at the counter. If the honest answer is that it is not worth fixing, you hear that for the same $60, and we help you figure out what comes next, including tested, warrantied refurbished laptops if you need something working this week.

Common questions
Microsoft Surface repair questions
Is my Surface worth fixing?
Sometimes, and sometimes honestly not, because the screen and battery are glued in and the parts can cost a real share of what the device is worth. That is what the $60 diagnostic answers first: what is wrong, what it would take, and whether we would do it if it were ours. If the answer is no, you have paid $60 for a straight answer, and we help you get your files off it and figure out what comes next.
Can you replace a Surface battery?
On many models, yes. The battery sits behind a glued-in screen, so the screen has to come off first, and that is done carefully and with the price agreed in advance. We tell you before starting if your model is one where the screen is likely to be damaged on the way in, so you can decide with the whole picture. Repairs carry a 30-day warranty on parts and labor.
Can you get my files off a Surface that will not turn on?
Often, but not always. On many Surfaces the storage is soldered to the board, so there is no drive to pull and read. If the Surface will power up at all there are usually ways in; if the board is dead the odds drop. Data recovery starts with the same $60 look and you get the honest odds before going further. That work is best-effort, so the warranty covers repairs, not recovery.
My Surface is slow or stuck on updates. Do I need to bring it in?
Maybe not. Software trouble can often be handled in a remote session for $120 flat ($90 for members): you start Windows’ own Quick Assist and watch every step. If it turns out to be a hardware problem, you do not pay for a remote fix that could not happen, and you bring it in instead.
What if my Surface is still under warranty?
Check with Microsoft first: warranty work goes through them, not us, and we are not connected to Microsoft in any way. Once it is out of warranty, or when you would rather have a local person look at it this week, bring it in. Your answer comes within 5 business days.
