Chromebook repair in South Bend

Cracked screen, keys that stopped working, a charge port that only works at an angle, or a Chromebook that won’t turn on at all: bring it in. We work on Chromebooks from every brand, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo and Samsung, for families, students and schools across the South Bend area.

The diagnostic is $60 and it comes off the repair. One honest heads-up before you drive over: some Chromebooks cost less new than the repair does, and when yours is one of them we tell you at the diagnostic instead of selling you the fix.

Or just walk in during business hours, no appointment needed.

Chromebook problems we fix

  • Cracked, black or flickering screens
  • Keyboards and touchpads with dead keys
  • Charge ports, and Chromebooks that won’t charge
  • Chromebooks that won’t turn on, or won’t get past the logo
  • Powerwash, reset and “Chrome OS is missing or damaged” help
  • Broken hinges and cracked cases
  • School Chromebooks: one, or a cart of them

A school-issued Chromebook is usually managed by the school, which can limit what a reset can do and sometimes who is allowed to repair it. Check with the school first if you’re unsure, and bring the charger along either way.

What to expect

Here's how it goes.

Bring it in with the charger

Walk in with the Chromebook and its charger. For the flat $60 we test the screen, keyboard, charge port and battery, and find out why it won't start if that's the problem.

An honest fix-or-replace call

Some Chromebooks cost less new than the repair does. If yours is one of them, we say so at the diagnostic. If it's worth fixing, you get a real price before any work starts, and the $60 comes off it.

Back in a day or two

Parts come in for your exact model, so a screen or keyboard sometimes takes an extra day or two to arrive; you hear that up front. Most repairs are done a day or two after you approve the fix, with a 30-day warranty on parts and labor.

Common questions

Common chromebook repair questions

Is it worth fixing a Chromebook?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, and we'll give you the honest answer. A cracked screen or a bad charge port on a decent Chromebook is usually worth doing. A bargain model with a couple of problems stacked up can cost more to repair than a new one, and when that's the case we say so at the diagnostic rather than take your money. The flat $60 gets you a real look and a straight recommendation either way, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead.

How much does a Chromebook screen repair cost?

It depends on your exact model and the screen it takes, so we won't guess at a price over the phone, because a guess before we've seen it wouldn't be honest. It's a flat $60 to check it over and tell you exactly what it needs, and that $60 comes off the total if you go ahead. If the screen costs more than the Chromebook is worth, we tell you that for the same $60.

My Chromebook won't turn on. What should I try before bringing it in?

Plug it in for half an hour with a charger you know works, then hold the Refresh key and tap Power, which forces a restart on most Chromebooks. If it's still dark, it could be the charger, the charge port, the battery, or something on the board, and the only way to know is to look. Bring it in with the charger and we'll find out for the flat $60.

Can you powerwash or reset my Chromebook, or fix 'Chrome OS is missing or damaged'?

Yes. A powerwash wipes the Chromebook back to fresh, and the 'missing or damaged' message usually means it needs Chrome OS reinstalled from a recovery drive, which we can do. Two honest notes first: a powerwash erases anything saved only in the Downloads folder (what's in your Google account stays), and a Chromebook managed by a school or employer may block a reset or re-enroll itself afterward, so check with them first if it's theirs.

Do you repair school Chromebooks?

Yes, for families and for the schools themselves, one at a time or a whole cart. One thing to check first: many schools have their own repair program, insurance or rules about outside repair for the Chromebooks they issue, and a school-managed device may limit what we can reset. If the school is fine with it, bring it in with the charger. Schools and nonprofits can also book pickup and return, from $39 plus the diagnostic, on our schools and nonprofits page.

Can you get my files off a broken Chromebook?

Usually there's less to rescue than people fear, because most of what you do on a Chromebook lives in your Google account and shows up as soon as you sign in on another one. The exception is the Downloads folder and anything saved offline, which stays on the machine. If the Chromebook still powers on in some form we can often get those off; if it's completely dead it's a harder question, and we'll tell you honestly what's possible after the $60 look.

Whatever broke, we’ve probably seen it. Let’s take a look.

Our flat prices are posted on the pricing page. The one thing we never guess at is the repair itself: we look first ($60, credited to your repair), then you get a real number before any work starts. Walk in, book a time, or text us a photo of what’s wrong. Look for the black door with our logo on it, straight ahead when you pull in, up the steps; knock if it’s locked, we’re here.
