How much does computer repair cost in South Bend?

Our real numbers, what makes one repair cost more than another, and the honest list of what is usually not worth fixing.

You want a number before you drive over, and most shops make you call to get one. Here are ours, straight from our price list, along with the part nobody prints: why a repair costs what it does, and when the honest answer is to not fix it at all.

The short answer: our actual prices

These are the same numbers you see at the counter and in the booking flow. Nothing gets added on afterward.

  • Diagnostic: $60, flat, and it comes off the repair if you go ahead. This is the only money you spend before you know what is wrong.
  • Priority diagnostic: $109. Same look, ahead of every standard job, for the week you cannot wait.
  • The repair itself: quoted after the diagnostic, with the $60 already credited. You approve the price before any work starts, and repairs carry a 30-day warranty on parts and labor.
  • On-site visit: $149 flat, at your home or business. A next-day or weekend slot adds $49.
  • Remote session: $120 flat per session, or $90 for SBCR members. Not hourly.
  • Pickup and return: from $39 plus the diagnostic, so from $99 all in. We collect it, fix it at the shop, and bring it back.
  • SBCR members ($9.99 a month, first 30 days free) get free diagnostics on every repair.

Why we do not print a price for the repair itself

It is not a dodge. A screen, a battery, a keyboard or a charge port depends on your exact model, and two laptops that look identical from across the room can take parts that cost very different amounts. A basic display and a high-resolution touchscreen are not close in price. The same goes for drives and memory: a machine with the storage soldered to the board is a different job from one with a slot.

So any repair price we put on this page would be a guess, and a guess before we have seen the machine is not an honest number. What you get instead is a real one: for the $60 we confirm exactly what the computer needs, quote it in plain words, and you decide. Decide no, and you only ever paid the $60.

What actually drives a repair price

  • The part. This is the biggest factor by far. The part for your exact model sets most of the price, which is why we order the right one instead of a close-enough one.
  • How the machine is built. Some laptops open with a few screws; some have the battery glued in or the storage soldered down. More time on the bench means more labor.
  • Whether your files have to come first. If a drive is failing, saving your photos before the repair is its own step, and it comes before anything else.
  • How soon you need it. Priority service exists for that, and it is the only way a repair gets more expensive than the standard quote.
  • What else we find. Sometimes the slow computer has a failing drive and a dead battery. You hear about both at the diagnostic, and you pick what to fix.

What the diagnostic actually buys you

A hands-on look at the real problem, not a guess from a symptom. You get your answer within 5 business days, usually sooner, in plain English: what is wrong, what it costs to fix, and whether it is worth fixing. If it is not, you hear that for the same $60, and we help you figure out what comes next, including moving your files to whatever replaces it.

What is usually not worth fixing

We say this at the counter every week, so we will say it here too. A repair is usually the wrong call when:

  • It is a bargain-bin laptop and the part costs more than the whole machine did. Some Chromebooks and budget laptops land here.
  • The computer is old enough that it cannot run a supported version of Windows and has more than one problem stacking up.
  • It is a basic monitor. Many cost less new than the parts and labor to repair them.
  • The repair would cost more than about half the price of an equivalent replacement. Our is my laptop worth fixing guide walks through that math.

What is almost always worth fixing

  • Swapping an old spinning hard drive for an SSD. The biggest speed difference there is, for a fraction of a new computer.
  • A battery, a charge port, or a cracked screen on a laptop that is otherwise healthy.
  • Virus and scam cleanup. The computer underneath is usually fine.
  • A spill, if it gets to the bench quickly.

When to bring it in

If you are already asking what it would cost, bring it in. The $60 is the cheapest way to stop guessing, and it is credited to the fix. Walk in Monday through Thursday, 9:00 to 5:30, or Friday by appointment, at 746 S Arnold St Suite 3: the black door with our logo on it, straight ahead when you pull in, up the steps. Or book a drop-off time online and we will be expecting you.

Every price, on one page.

Common questions

Quick answers

Do I still pay the $60 if you cannot fix it?

Yes, the $60 diagnostic is the one charge that stands on its own, because the honest answer is the work, including “this one is not worth fixing.” Beyond that, nothing. Repairs are quoted first and you approve the price before any work starts, so if the answer is no, you only ever paid the $60.

Can you tell me the repair price over the phone?

Not honestly, because the part depends on your exact model and we have not seen the machine. What we will tell you over the phone is whether it is likely worth bringing in. Text the model and the problem to (574) 444-9910 and we will say so straight.

Is the diagnostic ever free?

For SBCR members it is. The membership is $9.99 a month with the first 30 days free, and members get free diagnostics on every repair plus remote sessions at $90 instead of $120.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. You hear the full price before we touch anything, and nothing is added afterward. The only extras are ones you choose: priority service, a next-day or weekend slot for a visit or remote session, and the parts you approved in the quote.

Whatever broke, we’ve probably seen it. Let’s take a look.

Our flat prices are posted on the pricing page. The one thing we never guess at is the repair itself: we look first ($60, credited to your repair), then you get a real number before any work starts. Walk in, book a time, or text us a photo of what’s wrong. Look for the black door with our logo on it, straight ahead when you pull in, up the steps; knock if it’s locked, we’re here.
